Language honor societies induct 27

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 8, 2019) -- There were international honors all around on Wednesday as two groups of Albany High School students were inducted into two language honor societies.

 

Nineteen French-language students were inducted into the Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society) and eight Chinese-language students were inducted into the National Chinese Honor Society.

 

Congratulations, félicitations and 恭喜 to all of them!

 

To be members of the Société Honoraire de Français, students must maintain a 90 average in all their French classes and an 85 in all other subjects. To be members of National Chinese Honor Society, students must maintain an 85 average or higher in four semesters of Chinese.

Also, two Albany High French-language seniors were honored with medals from the American Association of Teachers of French. Piro Gusho earned the AATF Senior Medal and Leigh Mark Manantan was awarded the Excellence in French Award.

 

To qualify for the awards, a student must: have maintained an A average in French; a B average overall; be in his or her senior year; have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the study of French by participating in extracurricular activities related to French; have completed at least three years of formal French study; and be a non-native speaker of French.

 

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves approximately 9,500 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
