About Harriet
Gibbons High School
Harriet
Gibbons High School, a learning community of Albany High
School, is a ninth-grade preparatory program that serves
up to 200 students in an environment with intensive
academic programs and support.
The goal of the program
is to prepare students for academic success upon
entering Albany High School as sophomores, and,
ultimately, a college education. In addition, part of
the program's mission is to support students, families
and the community through the implementation of a
school-wide emphasis on positive behaviors.
Harriet Gibbons students follow the same curriculum as
freshmen at Albany High School. The Harriet Gibbons
difference is a smaller, more personalized learning
environment.
Much of the
learning is project-based, and students participate in
STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program). In
addition, a teacher study group meets daily, focusing on
professional development, best education practices and
classroom strategies.
Harriet Gibbons students
can participate in all the sports and clubs offered at
Albany High. Harriet Gibbons also offers after-school programs.
