Program dedicated in memory of former district principal

The City School District of Albany Board of Education has renamed the building that delivers the district's alternative-education programs in memory of former administrator Anthony I. "Tony" Clement.

The Tony Clement Center for Education serves students in grades 7-12 at 395 Elk St., the new location for the district's alternative-education programs in the 2017-18 school year.

Clement served the district for 18 years before he died of cancer in May 2012. He was 47 and serving in his first year as principal at Philip J. Schuyler Achievement Academy at the time. Prior to that assignment, he spent one year as principal at the Alternative Learning Center and five years as principal at Harriet Gibbons High School, an alternative program that served students in grades 9-12 through the 2005-06 school year and freshmen only until its closure at the end of the 2009-10 school year. Follow this link to read more about his life and contributions to the district.
