Giffen's Principal of the Year

Picture of Principal Jasmine Brown posing with a student at an awards ceremonyALBANY, N.Y. (April 19, 2018) – The Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) has named Jasmine Brown as Principal of the Year for her tireless efforts on behalf of the students, staff, families and community members of Giffen Memorial Elementary School.

While she is grateful for the recognition, Brown insists that this accomplishment is not a personal one belonging to her alone, but a collective success that belongs to the entire Giffen community.

Brown, a South End native and Albany High School graduate, began her career in education as an English teacher at Albany High in 2002. She served as assistant to the ELA secondary supervisor and Albany High’s summer-school coordinator before becoming assistant principal at Lansingburgh High School in 2010. She returned home to the City School District of Albany at the start of the 2012-13 school year, when she became principal of Giffen.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to work in partnership with our diverse community to engage every learner in a robust educational program designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for success. The district serves more than 9,600 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
