Six district students earn Youth Recognition Awards

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 25, 2017) -- Six City School District of Albany students will receive Youth Recognition Awards in June from the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families.

 

Youth Recognition Awards honor young people who show tremendous resiliency and growth; perform community service; or demonstrate athletic or artistic ability. There are 10 total awards given in Albany County: five to students in grades 6-8 and five to students in grades 9-12.

 

Albany public school students and the awards they won follow.

  • Kerwin Anthony Blake II, grade 7, William S. Hackett Middle School – Artistic Expression Award, middle school

  • Leighanne Caparelli, grade 8, West Hill Middle School – Most Improved Student Award, middle school

  • Kennedy Foley, grade 7, North Albany Academy – Ed Roche Outstanding Youth Award, middle school

  • Messiah Hodge-Humphreys, grade 9, Albany High School – Ed Roche Outstanding Youth Award, high school

  • Hope Matthie, grade 12, Albany High School – Most Improved Student Award, high school

  • Devin Myrick, grade 6, Giffen Memorial Elementary School – Lt. John Finn Community Service Award, middle school

  

All the award-winners will be recognized at a June 7 ceremony.

       

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves more than 9,600 students in 17 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
