ALBANY, N.Y. (March 8, 2010)
-- The City School District of Albany Board of Education has appointed
Fiona Thompson to the new school volunteer coordinator position, filling
an important need identified in
the district's strategic plan, "A Vision for Tomorrow."
Building a quality
volunteerism program throughout the district is a central element in
Strategy 1, which aims to more effectively engage parents and
families in their children’s education. As she begins in this new
position, Ms. Thompson will identify volunteer programs currently
operating in the district and community, and evaluate them to
determine their effectiveness. She will develop processes to
identify volunteer opportunities and the interests and talents of
potential volunteers, and also develop a recruitment process for new
volunteers.
"There are so many different ways that
people can volunteer in our schools," Ms. Thompson said. "It's
almost limitless. Our goal is to have a systematic approach to
volunteerism, so we can create the best possible fit between
people's interests and talents, and our school district's needs."
The board approved
Ms. Thompson's appointment to the half-time position at its March 4
meeting. Follow this
