Notice of Accessibility

General Notice

With regard to the City School District of Albany’s (“District”) website and any official District web presence developed, maintained or offered through District sources, The District is committed to complying with the provisions of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, so that students, parents and members of the public with disabilities are able to independently acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same benefits and services as those without disabilities, with equivalent ease of use.

All existing web content produced by the District and new, updated and existing web content provided through District sources, will conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA standards by February 1, 2018. The District’s Chief Information Officer, in conjunction with the Communications Office, will be responsible for reviewing all areas of the District’s web presence and evaluating its accessibility on a periodic basis.

Transition Toward Web Accessibility

The City School District of Albany is in the process of transitioning its websites and web-based resources to more accessible formats. By September 1, 2018, all web-based information hosted by the District  will comply with the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA and the Web Accessibility Initiative’s Accessible Rich Internet Applications Suite (WAI-ARIA) 1.0. These standards help make the web easier to navigate for people experiencing vision problems, dexterity issues, hearing differences and those with other neurocognitive barriers.

About Portable Document Format (PDF) Files

The City School District of Albany is unable to provide alternate text or HTML versions for many of the documents that appear on the web site in PDF format. However, we will work with any individual with a disability to provide any web document or information in an alternative format. A phone number, that an individual may use for the purpose of requesting an alternate version of a specific PDF document, is provided on every page that includes a link to a PDF.
