Grade Configuration Steering Committee Minutes

Sept. 26, 2016: What does an exemplary middle school look like?

  • Introduction of committee members

  • Discussion of norms

    • Arrive on time, stay until the end

    • Keep phone use to a minimum, unless using to take notes. Keep on silent, take calls outside the room

    • Participate fully

    • Be patient and listen respectfully

    • Limit sidebar conversations

    • Stay on topic

    • Use of "parking lot" to revisit important issues not directly related to current discussion

  • Review of Phase 1 of grade configuration by Dr. Wilkins, available in PowerPoint

    • Discussion of what makes a high quality middles school and the vital role they play in a child's academic, social and emotional development
