Sophomore MacDonald
competes in state swimming meet
in two events
Albany High School sophomore Hanlon MacDonald
finished 17th in the 50-yard freestyle and 31st in the 100 free Friday,
November 21, in the preliminary rounds of the New York State swimming
meet at Erie Community College in Buffalo.
Hanlon, the Section II champion in the 50 free,
swam that race in 25.06 seconds Friday, qualifying for Saturday's
consolation finals. Earlier Friday, she swam the 100 free in 55.48
seconds but did not qualify for the finals.
In the Section II championships Nov. 8, Hanlon
won the 50 free in 24.64 seconds, the 10th-fastest 50 free in New York
this year to that point. Hanlon also finished fourth in the 100 free
with a state-qualifying time of 55.34 seconds.

Also in the Section II finals, Hanlon swam the anchor
leg in the 200 free relay as
Albany placed sixth, and the first leg in the
200 medley relay as the Lady Falcons placed eighth. Senior Catherine
Calsolaro, sophomore Brooke Longstaffe and junior Kelly Criscione also
swam in both relays.
