The 2008-09 school year included
numerous highlights for Albany High School's varsity sports teams,
including trips to the state tournament for Hanlon MacDonald
(swimming), Kareem Morris (outdoor track) and the boys'
outdoor track 400-meter relay team comprised of Kareem,
Jalon Scott,
Corey Harris, Fuad Jusic and alternate Jaah-mel Arrington.
Albany High teams also won or shared Big 10
championships in boys' and girls' outdoor
track, boy's tennis and baseball -- the baseball team's first
conference title in 20 years. Senior pitcher Michael Hughes became
the first Albany High baseball player to earn a Division I
scholarship when he signed with nationally ranked Coastal Carolina
in May, and the Falcons also won the first baseball playoff game in
school history with a 3-1 win over Guilderland on May 28.
Varsity girls' basketball coach Leslie
Bogucki also announced her retirement in March after guiding the
Lady Falcons to 214 wins over 18 seasons. That included a Class AA
state championship in 1997 and back-to-back Section II titles in
1997-98.
